Job Overview:
As a Housing Support Worker at Positive Choices Housing, you will play a vital role in supporting vulnerable adults at risk of homelessness. This position requires a combination of housing management and direct support to help tenants live confidently and independently. You will be responsible for maintaining the standard of properties, promoting independent living skills, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tenant Support & Engagement:
- Provide comprehensive support to tenants, enabling them to maintain their licence agreement and live independently.
- Deliver Tenancy Related Support, including assistance with benefits, mental health services, substance misuse, and social care.
- Regularly visit tenants to monitor their well-being, encourage engagement, and promote independent living skills such as budgeting and maintaining their homes.
- Conduct needs and risk assessments and develop personalised support plans in collaboration with tenants.
- Address and reduce antisocial behaviour through regular visits and appropriate interventions.
- Housing Management:
- Manage a designated patch of properties or property, ensuring all units are prepared for re-occupying and maintaining maximum occupancy.
- Oversee property maintenance, ensuring high standards are met by liaising with maintenance teams and conducting regular inspections.
- Manage housing waiting lists, process void units, and handle new tenant assessments, sign-ups, including dealing with Housing Benefit applications.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained, including tenant files and property-related documentation.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Conduct weekly fire and emergency checks at properties.
- Ensure all properties comply with health and safety regulations, including reporting incidents and managing planned and cyclical maintenance programs.
· Partnership & Communication:
- Maintain effective relationships with external agencies, including referring agencies, social services, and other stakeholders to support tenants.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work as part of a cohesive team, supporting colleagues and contributing to the overall goals of the organisation.
- Participate in team meetings, briefings, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Essential:
- Experience in a housing management or support role, particularly with vulnerable adults.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to maintaining tenant independence.
- IT literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Full driving license with access to a vehicle and business insurance.
- Desirable:
- Knowledge of housing management practices and relevant housing legislation.
- Housing-related qualification (e.g., BTEC, Degree, NVQ).
- Experience with housing management systems such as SDM.

Additional Information:
- This role may require occasional work outside of normal office hours.
