As a nurse on the AMU, you will be at the forefront of acute care, managing patients during the critical early stages of their hospital journey. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice.

As a Band 5 Nurse on the Acute Medical Unit, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, patient-centred care in a fast-paced, acute environment. Your responsibilities will include:
Comprehensive Patient Assessment : Conduct thorough and timely assessments of acutely ill patients, recognising and responding to changes in condition. Prioritise care based on clinical urgency.
Monitoring and Evaluation : Continuously monitor patients' vital signs, symptoms, and progress, making clinical decisions based on current guidelines. Adapt care plans as needed and escalate concerns appropriately.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration : Work closely with doctors, allied health professionals, and other team members to ensure coordinated and holistic care. Participate in ward rounds and discharge planning.
Infection Control and Health & Safety : Maintain a safe and clean environment by adhering to infection control policies and health and safety regulations.
Professional Development : Actively participate in training, mentoring, and development opportunities provided by the Trust. Enhance your skills in acute medical care and support junior staff and students in their learning.
This role will allow you to develop your clinical expertise in acute medical care, while making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients during their hospital stay.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
