Pay: National Minimum Wage (see Pay and benefits)
Application deadline: 30 June 2026
Excel Tutors is a thriving tuition team in the heart of East London, helping students from primary school through to A Level achieve results they are proud of. We are growing, and we are looking for enthusiastic, committed tutors to grow with us.
If you love your subject and enjoy helping young people succeed, this is your chance to do meaningful work, sharpen your own teaching skills, and make a real difference in your community. Many of our tutors join us at the start of their journey into teaching and education, and we are proud to help them build the confidence and experience that shapes their careers.
You will work with students in small groups, helping them strengthen their subject knowledge, master exam technique, and build the confidence to reach their full potential.
Subjects we are recruiting for
We would love to hear from tutors who can teach one or more of the following:
- Primary English and Maths
- KS3 English, Maths and Science
- GCSE English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science and Computer Science
- A Level Maths, Further Maths Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Economics, Business and Computer Science
What you will do
- Teach students in face-to-face, small-group lessons
- Support school curriculum content and prepare students for tests, GCSEs and A Levels
- Explain topics clearly and patiently, and help students grow in confidence
- Mark classwork and homework, and give feedback that helps students improve
- Set targets, review progress, and keep lessons structured, friendly and engaging
What we are looking for
- Strong GCSE and A Level results, and good subject knowledge in your area(s)
- Clear communication and a patient, supportive approach
- Confidence working with children and young people
- Reliability and good timekeeping
- Availability after school and/or at weekends, with flexibility across year groups
- A Level or equivalent (preferred)
Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, childcare, youth work or classroom experience is helpful but not essential. Full training and ongoing guidance are provided, so if you have the right attitude and strong subject knowledge, we will help you do the rest.
Who this suits
This role is a great fit for university students, A Level leavers, graduates, trainee teachers, teaching assistants, aspiring tutors and experienced tutors, as well as anyone with strong academic results who enjoys supporting young people. If you are considering a future in teaching, education, tutoring, mentoring or youth work, you will gain valuable, career-building experience with us.
Hours
Part-time. Shifts are available on weekday afternoons and evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, with flexible scheduling around your other commitments. Weekend availability is preferred.
Pay and benefits
- Paid at the National Minimum Wage / National Living Wage for your age band. From April 2026 the statutory rates are £12.71 per hour (21 and over), £10.85 (18 to 20) and £8.00 (under 18 and apprentice).
- Your pay is reviewed after three months, with increases based on performance, so strong tutors are rewarded as they grow with us.
Why join Excel Tutors?
You will join an experienced, supportive team that is genuinely invested in helping students achieve more and in helping you develop as an educator. You will gain real experience in tutoring, lesson delivery, student support and classroom communication, all of which are valuable whether you are building a career in education or simply want rewarding part-time work that makes a difference.
