This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person who is interested in joining our excellent team in the Biochemistry Department Network of Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services. This post is based at University Hospital Coventry (UHCW). The department is UKAS ISO15189:2022 accredited and has IBMS training status. UHCW is a very busy major trauma centre.
Applicants must have an IBMS accredited Biomedical Scientist degree and have experience of working in a diagnostic laboratory in the UK. You should be a highly motivated, forward thinking team player who is able to manage a busy workload.
The successful applicant will join our team of BMS staff and following all appropriate training will be expected to participate in our 24/7 Biochemistry service.
The successful candidate will be paid 75% the top of band 5 pay scale which equates to £28,347. Upon completion of the registration portfolio you will progress to substantive band 5.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Under supervision, daily perform routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures.
Under supervision, daily perform interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical non-conformance and when to inform the line manager.
Accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation.
As appropriate and under supervision, record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them.
Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal records
Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff.
Work to meet laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staff

To train to become a Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist in accordance with statutory regulations, professional standards, UHCW NHS Trust and local policies and standard operating procedures (SOP). To perform technical and scientific investigations within Pathology as required by the service under the supervision of HCPC registered BMS staff.
