The Supply Room is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Pupil Behaviour Mentor to join one of our client schools in Reading.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support students across a range of age groups (4–11, 11–16, or 3–19 years), helping them overcome behavioural, social, and emotional challenges to succeed in school.
This role is ideal for individuals with experience in education, childcare, youth work, or support roles, who are passionate about making a positive difference in young people’s lives.
You will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, improving engagement, and supporting students to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group behavioural support
- Act as a positive role model for students
- Support pupils in managing emotions and developing self-regulation strategies
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students
- Work alongside teaching staff to improve behaviour in the classroom
- Support students both in lessons and during unstructured times
- Monitor behaviour, progress, and engagement
- Contribute to a safe, structured, and supportive school environment
As a Pupil Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students who may display challenging behaviour or struggle with engagement.
You will support them in developing coping strategies, improving focus, and building positive relationships.
Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will help implement behaviour support plans and create a consistent, supportive environment where students feel understood and motivated.
A key part of the role will involve supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
You will help break down barriers to learning by offering tailored support, encouragement, and structure. Your ability to remain calm, patient, and proactive will be essential in helping students build confidence, resilience, and achieve positive outcomes.
Person Specification
- Experience in education, childcare, youth work, or similar support roles
- Strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills
- Punctual, reliable, and committed to full-time work
- A genuine desire to work in the education sector long-term
- Ability to support students with a range of behavioural and additional needs
- Resilient, patient, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
