Role overview
We are seeking a talented and analytical Business & Related Research Professional to join our team. In this role, you will lead media monitoring, business intelligence, and market research activities to support strategic decision-making across our retail operations. You will work closely with senior management to translate research findings into actionable business insights.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse media coverage relevant to Exson Limited, its brand positioning, and the wider tobacco retail sector
- Conduct in-depth business research including competitor analysis, market sizing, and consumer behaviour trends within specialist tobacco retail
- Gather, interpret, and present data from industry reports, trade publications, and regulatory updates (including HMRC and UKBA guidance)
- Produce regular research reports, briefings, and presentations for senior leadership to inform commercial strategy
- Track legislative and regulatory developments affecting the tobacco retail market (SIC 47260) and assess their business impact
- Support marketing and communications teams with research-driven insights for campaigns, product positioning, and audience targeting
- Maintain and develop a research database capturing market intelligence, media mentions, and competitor activities
- Identify emerging business opportunities and risks through proactive horizon scanning
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure research outputs align with operational and strategic objectives
Required qualifications & experience
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) from a recognised university — essential
- Proven experience in business research, market analysis, or a related analytical role
- Experience conducting media monitoring and sentiment analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex findings clearly
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple research projects simultaneously
Desirable skills
- Experience in the FMCG or retail Sector
- Familiarity with media tools (e.g. Canva etc.)
- Experience with social media analytics and digital media monitoring
