Sporty Behaviour Support Mentor | Classroom-based
Are you passionate about using sport and physical activity to inspire and support young people?
We are seeking a dedicated, energetic, and compassionate Sporty Behaviour Support Mentor to work within a classroom setting, supporting children on a 1:1 basis, with behavioural, emotional, and additional learning needs.
This rewarding paid role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact by using sport, movement, and engaging activities to build confidence, improve behaviour, and support emotional wellbeing.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young people, particularly within education, youth work, coaching, or mentoring environments.
Start: Immediately, continuing in September 2026.
Setting: Specialist primary provision supporting pupils with SEMH, EBD and additional needs based in Lambeth South East London.
Hours: Mon & Fri 08:30-16:00.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support for pupils with behavioural or emotional needs
- Use sport, physical activity, and creative engagement to encourage participation, confidence, and routine
- Implement behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
- Build strong, positive, and consistent relationships with pupils
- Support class teachers in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Facilitate sports-based activities that promote teamwork, social skills, and positive behaviour
- Monitor and record behavioural progress, reporting concerns where necessary
- Contribute to personalised support and behaviour plans alongside school staff
- Encourage participation in activities that develop self-esteem, resilience, and motivation
- Promote a safe, respectful, and engaging atmosphere during classroom and activity sessions
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, coaching, or mentoring roles is desirable
- Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth engagement, or behavioural support is highly beneficial
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN or SEMH needs is advantageous
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Energetic, patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
- Passion for making a positive impact through sport and mentoring
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team within an educational setting
- Relevant qualifications in education, sport, youth work, or special needs support are welcomed but not essential
