Advanced Accountancy (Midlands) Limited is a well-established and growing accountancy practice based in Kingswinford. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join our expanding team.
This is a varied role and would suit someone who is a good all-rounder, with strong bookkeeping experience and the ability to support senior accountants with a range of client work. The successful candidate will be responsible for dealing with bookkeeping for a variety of clients, preparing and submitting VAT returns, assisting with self-assessment tax return work, and supporting the wider accounts team where required.
The role will also involve assisting with quarterly bookkeeping reviews and filings, as well as helping clients and the practice prepare for the upcoming Making Tax Digital for Income Tax requirements.
The role would suit someone who has previous experience working within an accountancy practice, can manage a varied workload, and is confident dealing with clients by phone and email. Experience is more important than qualifications for this role, although it may suit someone who is AAT qualified or currently studying AAT and looking to develop further within practice.
The duties of the Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant will include:
- Bookkeeping for multiple clients, including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and posting journals
- Preparing bookkeeping records ready for year-end handover to the accounts team
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Assisting with quarterly bookkeeping reviews, submissions and filings
- Assisting with preparation work in respect of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
- Use of Sage, Sage Cloud, Xero, QuickBooks and other bookkeeping software
- Assisting with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns
- Requesting and reviewing client records and information
- Supporting senior accountants with accounts preparation, tax work and general client matters
- Investigating and resolving bookkeeping queries or discrepancies
- Liaising with clients by phone and email and building strong client relationships
- General office administration and ad hoc tasks as required
Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant Position Requirements
- Previous bookkeeping experience is essential
- Ideally 2 years’ experience within an accountancy practice
- Good working knowledge of Sage Accounts, Sage Cloud and Excel
- Knowledge of Xero and QuickBooks would be advantageous
- Some experience with VAT returns and self-assessment tax returns would be beneficial
- Awareness of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax would be advantageous, although training can be provided
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Able to manage and prioritise a varied workload
- Comfortable working to deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to use own initiative
- Good communication skills and confident dealing with clients
- AAT qualified or part-qualified would be beneficial, but not essential
