EC&I Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to join a large-scale, highly regulated industrial manufacturing site operating within a major hazard environment.
The Role
You will act as the site technical authority for electrical, control, and instrumentation systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations. The position combines hands-on technical support with project leadership and continuous improvement responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise for electrical distribution, control systems (PLC/DCS), instrumentation, and safety instrumented systems.
- Lead and deliver EC&I projects from concept through commissioning, managing scope, contractors, budgets (up to £150k), and timelines.
- Support maintenance teams with troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Ensure full compliance with major hazard regulations (including COMAH), hazardous area requirements, and functional safety standards.
- Manage and verify Safety Integrity Levels (SILs), a safety risk level classification system used to determine required reliability of safety instrumented systems.
- Maintain technical documentation, site standards, and safety-critical system performance requirements.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and HSE teams to uphold high safety and operational standards.
About You
- Degree-qualified in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or similar).
- 5–10 years’ experience within a COMAH-regulated, high-hazard industrial environment.
- CompEx qualified (hazardous area certification).
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certified.
- Strong knowledge of PLC/DCS systems, instrumentation, LV/HV electrical distribution, and functional safety (including SIL determination and verification).
- Experienced in project delivery, contractor management, and regulatory compliance.
- Confident communicator able to operate independently and influence cross-functional teams.
