We are a growing children's day nursery group operating across 5 settings. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for keeping our settings safe, compliant, and well-maintained day to day, while being on site to provide practical support during the development of new settings.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & safety
- Work closely with the nursery's Health & Safety lead to ensure all settings remain fully compliant with statutory requirements — including fire safety, Ofsted premises requirements, RIDDOR, COSHH, asbestos, legionella, electrical and gas safety
- Support the maintenance and auditing of compliance records, certificates, and risk assessments across every site
- Act as the on-site point of contact for all maintenance-related H&S matters
- Ensure premises consistently meet Ofsted's Early Years statutory framework requirements
- To support the onboarding of new staff members with their training needs, as well as ensuring that own training requirements are up to date
Maintenance & facilities
- Manage day-to-day reactive and planned preventative maintenance across all settings
- Liaise with and oversee contractors carrying out works on site
- Maintain equipment, and outdoor play areas
- Utilise the maintenance app and complete planned works in line with requirements by the nursery management team
Growth & new sites
- Provide occasional, practical support to the external building team during fit-outs and refurbishments of new nursery settings
- Assist with on-site coordination where needed during development phases
Leadership & Administration
- Line manages maintenance staff
- Report to the senior leadership team on maintenance performance, risks, and spend
- Build relationships with landlords, managing agents, and local councils
Person Specification & Key Competencies
Essential
- Proven experience in maintenance, facilities management, or a related field
- Good working knowledge of building compliance and H&S obligations
- Experience managing a maintenance team
- Highly organised with strong budget awareness
- Full driving licence (multi-site travel required)
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable
- Experience in a children's, education, or care sector setting
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of Ofsted premises requirements for Early Years
