Job Title:
General Labourer
Location:
Based in Ashford carrying out work on train stations across Kent and Sussex.
Job Purpose:
To assist with carrying out a wide range of repair, maintenance, and minor installation works across railway station buildings and infrastructure, ensuring stations remain safe, operational, compliant, and presentable for passengers and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general labouring duties to support station repair and maintenance works
- Assist with minor civil works including paving, fencing, drainage, and concrete repairs
- Undertake basic building maintenance (e.g. painting, patch repairs, replacing fixtures)
- Support trackside and station-based teams under supervision
- Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, and materials
- Keep work areas clean, tidy, and safe at all times
- Follow all railway safety procedures, site rules, and method statements
- Work safely near live railway environments when required
- Report defects, hazards, or incidents promptly to supervisors
- Assist during planned works, reactive repairs, and emergency call-outs
Health & Safety
- Adhere strictly to railway safety standards and PPE requirements
- Participate in site briefings, toolbox talks, and safety inductions
- Comply with Network Rail and client safety policies
Skills & ExperienceEssential:
- Experience in general labouring, construction, or maintenance work
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good physical fitness and manual handling capability
- Strong awareness of health and safety
- Willingness to work shifts, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Desirable:
- Previous railway or infrastructure experience
- Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification
- CSCS card
- Basic hand tool or plant knowledge

Additional Information
- Travel between sites across Kent and Sussex will be required
- Drug & alcohol testing will be required in line with railway regulations

Pay: From £13.75 per hour
