Technical Payments Lead Role
We are now looking to expand our team to include a curious, committed and passionate Technical Payments Lead. This is an exciting new role for Alternative Airlines and as Technical Payments Lead, you will personally lead the payment experience for Alternative Airlines’ customers. This role will require you to show strong technical knowledge of payments and BNPL, particularly the ability to optimise the checkout process across lenders and payment integrations. Acting as a link between our in-house Engineering Teams and external payment companies, your technical skills will help our Engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and build better payment experiences with our Product Teams.
This role will become the key internal stakeholder for payments within Alternative Airlines. This person will be passionate about developing knowledge within other areas of the organization including Customer Service, Finance, Commercial and Marketing.
Alternative Airlines continually looks to extend lending options across the world. This role will help to facilitate new lending partnerships through the integrations and implementations of new lending and payment options. They will provide valuable insights into the decision-making process on new lenders and be curious about how Alternative Airlines uses a payments strategy as a growth lever.

This new role will sit within the Alternative Airlines’ 10-person Product Team, alongside Flight Content, User Experience, CRO and Design. Reporting into the Head of Product, who will also be responsible for your personal development, as well as direct involvement with the CEO and in-house engineering Teams, your responsibilities will be:
- Managing payment integrations for lenders, BNPL and payment companies on Alternative Airlines’ site including Affirm, Afterpay, Klarna, Stripe, Adyen and many lenders across the world
- Identifying and troubleshooting specific payment issues and working closely with our Back-End Engineering teams and external payment companies to resolve
- Partnering with our payment providers and lenders to understand their products and integrations including API documentation and best practices
- Working closely with our Front-End Engineering and CRO teams to ensure best practice for the site including marketing widgets and pre qualification tools
- Working with our Product Teams to improve the user experience across the checkout process as well as cross-collaboration with teams on payment projects
- Develop strategies and ideas to further improve the payment experience for Alternative Airlines’ customers
- Design and documenting effective payment operational and technical process documents
- Undertaking data analysis to highlight growth opportunities and areas to improve the payment experience
- Become the key stakeholder for payments across the business to develop payment specific knowledge within the company and across teams
- Work closely with our Commercial Team to understand and improve payment focusing on approval, take-up and success rates with our lenders
