About Gateway
We provide help for people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home. This includes people who are sleeping rough, families who are struggling to stay in their homes, and refugees who have left their country because of war.
We work with each person to understand the best way to help them and then we provide support they need to live safely and have a better future.

Gateway Services offer a range of homelessness initiatives and services as part of the Calico Group across the Northwest. The current range of services includes:
- Gateway - awarded ‘The Best Homeless Project’ via Housing 24. Our flagship service provides accommodation for 30 individuals with complex needs
- Move on and dispersed supported accommodation for individuals or families with lower support needs
- Floating Support Contracts to prevent homelessness and support tenancy sustainment
- Outreach projects connecting with rough sleepers or others facing homelessness Refugee resettlement
The Opportunity
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Outreach Project Worker to join our team and play a vital role in reducing and preventing rough sleeping.
This is a rewarding frontline role focused on engaging people who are homeless, particularly those who are disengaged from services, through assertive, respectful and trauma‑informed outreach. You will work creatively to build trusting relationships, remove barriers to support, and help individuals move away from street homelessness into safe, secure and sustainable housing.

What We’re Looking For
We believe in recruiting for potential as well as experience. Our ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, or related social exclusion issues.
Experience providing outreach, support, or advocacy within housing, supported housing, health, or community services.
Experience managing a caseload and supporting individuals with complex and multiple needs.
Experience working within a commissioned or contract‑driven service environment.
Ability and willingness to travel across service areas as required.
Experience building effective partnerships with external agencies such as local authorities, health services, probation or community organisations.
Experience contributing to service improvements, new initiatives or outreach projects.
Experience supporting people to move into accommodation and complete resettlement tasks.
Skills & Knowledge for This Role
Strong values‑led, non‑judgemental and person‑centred approach.
Ability to build trust and engage individuals who may be resistant or disengaged from services.
Good communication, negotiation and advocacy skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
Strong organisational skills, including accurate record‑keeping and reporting.
Competent IT skills and confidence using digital systems.
Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively and work to agreed timescales.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and operational demands.
Knowledge of trauma‑informed principles and how they are applied in practice.
Knowledge of housing, homelessness, supported housing and welfare legislation.
Awareness of de‑escalation techniques and conflict resolution strategies.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams.
Understanding of GDPR and confidentiality requirements.
Health & Safety Awareness
All of our employees are required to work in a safe way, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and keep themselves, other colleagues and customers safe. You will be expected to update your knowledge and skills on Health & Safety if successful in your application.
Safeguarding
We support adults, and while not all have children, colleagues must work in accordance with safeguarding principles to protect both residents and any children linked to them from harm. Our colleagues are expected to identify people ‘at risk’ and confidently report and follow up any Safeguarding concerns as appropriate within the service.
Digital
Across our services, we use a range of technology and systems and expect colleagues to use them effectively and safely following cybersecurity and data protection principles (UK GDPR). Full training on specific systems is provided but a willingness to learn and develop is essential.
