Job Purpose
To provide high-quality, person-centred nursing care to children and young adults with autism and associated complex health needs, including epilepsy, gastrostomy care, wound management, and other medical conditions.
To promote the health, wellbeing, and safety of young people through evidence-based clinical practice, effective multi-disciplinary working, and positive partnerships with families and external professionals.
To support Prior's Court in maintaining a safe, caring, autism-informed, and therapeutic environment that reflects the organisation's values and commitment to outstanding care.
Responsibilities - Clinical
- Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care in accordance with individual health needs and care plans
- Monitor and support the physical health and wellbeing of children and young adults through ongoing assessment and clinical observation
- Ensure appropriate monitoring systems are implemented and maintained to support individual medical needs
- Review, implement, and maintain clinical recommendations and care plans in partnership with relevant clinicians and multidisciplinary teams
- Support young people to attend medical appointments as required
- Respond appropriately to clinical concerns and escalate issues in line with organisational policy and professional standards
- Deliver nursing care in a manner that is autism-informed, trauma-informed, and responsive to individual communication and sensory needs
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of autism, associated health needs, and current evidence-based practice
Medicines Management
- Ensure the safe storage, administration, recording, and disposal of medicines in accordance with organisational policy and NMC standards
- Ensure young people have timely and appropriate access to prescribed medication and first aid resources
- Audit medicines management processes and support improvement actions where required
- Train and support staff in safe medicines administration and management of complex health needs
Record Keeping and Governance
- Maintain accurate, current, and confidential clinical records using electronic systems
- Ensure all nursing documentation, consent forms, best interest decisions, and medical information are reviewed and updated regularly
- Complete medical audits and action any requirements identified, in conjunction with the homes management teams
- Adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and maintain professional registration requirements
- Maintain compliance with statutory legislation, organisational policies, and best practice guidance
- Support infection prevention and control practices across the organisation
Young People and Families
- Promote a person-centred approach that values dignity, choice, independence, and wellbeing
- Build positive and professional relationships with young people, parents, and wider support networks
- Ensure parents and relevant professionals are kept informed of changes relating to a young person's health and wellbeing
- Liaise with key stakeholders during admissions to obtain and review relevant medical information in line with admission procedures
Multi-Disciplinary Working
- Work collaboratively with education, therapy, residential, and wellbeing teams to ensure coordinated care
- Maintain effective communication systems, including handovers and clinical updates
- Liaise with external healthcare professionals, consultants, hospitals, and community services as required
- Work closely with the UK Health Security Agency and other relevant bodies regarding infection prevention and control matters
Training and Development
- Participate in continuous professional development and maintain evidence of ongoing learning
- Deliver training and guidance to staff supporting children and young adults with complex health needs
- Promote high standards of professional practice across the organisation
- Contribute positively to a culture of learning, reflection, and service improvement
General Responsibilities

Experience - Required
- Experience supporting children or young adults with complex health needs
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary environment
- Experience in medicines management and clinical record keeping
- Experience delivering training or guidance to staff

Experience- Desired
- Experience working within autism services or specialist education settings
- Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or complex behaviours
- Experience implementing positive behaviour support approaches
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse qualification (RNLD, RGN, RMN, or RSCN)
- Current NMC registration

- Clinical audit experience
