Overview
Due to an influx of work and successful engagement with new customers we are seeking a skilled Upholstery Sewing Machinist to join our existing team. Initially this is on a fixed term (six month) basis, however we envisage that this may become a permanent contract failry swiftly.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in upholstery sewing as well as other sewn products and will be responsible for producing quality made products in leather, PU vinyl, faux and fabrics across all ranges. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to work with various materials, the ability to work on bespoke projects as well as volume line work and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. The Machinist will play a crucial role in ensuring that production targets are met efficiently and safely and working with the other staff to achieve this.
Purpose of the Role
To produce high-quality upholstered furniture products by operating industrial sewing machines in a factory environment. The machinist will follow production specifications and contribute to the smooth operation of the upholstery department.
Key Responsibilities
- Sew cushions, covers, and upholstery items for furniture to required standards
- Operate industrial sewing machines (e.g. flatbed, walking foot, overlocker) safely and efficiently
- Follow production specification sheets and templates accurately
- Select appropriate materials including cotton, cord, zips, and threads for each job
- Inspect work for faults and report any fabric or cutting issues to supervisors
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of sewing equipment
- Assist with stock control and notify supervisors when materials are low
- Support team members during absences or busy periods
- Uphold company standards, health & safety policies, and housekeeping protocols
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience using industrial sewing machines in furniture upholstery or soft furnishings
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and patterns
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Self-motivated with a team-oriented mindset
- Willingness to learn new styles and techniques
- Familiarity with furniture upholstery fabrics including leather and PU
- Familiarity with volume production line work as well as bespoke and recovers

- Working hours are negotiable within reason and this post is a minimum of 21 hours and maximum of 37. It is suitable for job share.
- Overtime is not available but hours accrued can be saved and taken in time off at a convenient time for both the business and the employee
Pay: £12.71-£13.00 per hour
