Captiva Learning are seeking experienced and values-driven Freelance Youth Work Markers to assess learner submissions for our national Level 6 Youth Work Degree Apprenticeship programme.
This freelance role is ideal for professionals with higher education marking experience and a strong understanding of UK youth work standards, rights-based practice, and apprenticeship education.
The rate offered is £15 per script.
The Role:
As a Freelance Youth Work Marker, you will assess learner assignments ranging from 1,250–3,500 words, ensuring that submissions meet academic standards, youth work values, and university regulations. You will apply provided marking rubrics, complete plagiarism and AI checks via Turnitin, and deliver robust, developmental feedback that supports apprentice progression and reflective practice. Assignments will span Levels 4–6, requiring markers to assess progression from foundational understanding to strategic and critically reflective practice.

Provide inclusive, actionable feedback linked to:

National Occupational Standards (NOS)

Youth work values and ethics

Sector policy and frameworks including NYA and UNCRC

Conduct Turnitin checks, including:

Similarity reports
-
AI-generated content indicators
-
Referencing and word count checks
-
Authenticity of practice evidence
-
Flag academic integrity concerns where appropriate.

Complete marking accurately and within agreed deadlines.

Typically mark between 20–50 assignments per batch.
About You
Essential Criteria:
Qualifications:

Master’s Degree (ideally in Youth Work, Community Development, or related field)

JNC-recognised professional youth work qualification

Proven experience of higher education marking and assessment

Strong understanding of:

Rights-based practice and UNCRC

Safeguarding and ethical practice

National Occupational Standards (NOS)

Excellent written English and academic feedback skills

Strong knowledge of Harvard referencing

Experience using Canvas and Turnitin

Experience as an Internal or External Examiner or Moderator

HEA Fellowship or teaching qualification

Recent frontline youth work practice experience
