CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator (VMC / HMC)
Salary: £17.26 – £18.45 per hour (Approx. £35,000 – £37,500)
Overtime potential: Up to £45,000 – £50,000
Working hours: 39 hours/week + overtime at 1.5x rate
Shift Pattern:
Mon–Thurs: 07:30 – 16:30
Fri: 07:30 – 12:30
The Role:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator to join our VMC & HMC Milling Cell.
Working in a subcontract environment, you will be involved in one-off and small batch production, giving you the opportunity to fully utilise your technical expertise.
Key responsibilities include:
- Programming, setting, and operating CNC machining centres
- Working from detailed engineering drawings
- Selecting tooling and proving out programs
- Machining a wide range of materials including steels, stainless steels, alloys, and non-ferrous metals
- Producing components from raw materials such as bar stock, fabrications, castings, and forgings
- Using CNC equipment with 4th axis capability and probing systems
- Programming via offline software or directly at the machine

The business specialises in the manufacture of high-precision components such as drive train parts, valve and pump internals, and long-length precision shafts.
Essential Requirements:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
- Strong experience programming, setting, and operating CNC machines (Fanuc controls preferred)
- Ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality systems
- Experience machining exotic materials (e.g. duplex, Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- High attention to detail
Desirable:
- Experience with Doosan VMCs or horizontal machining centres
- Familiarity with twin pallet HMC systems
- Manual Guide programming
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g. OneCNC)
- 4th axis machining
- Background in valve and pump component manufacture
- Experience in regulated industries (nuclear, defence, oil & gas, etc.)
- Proficiency with Office 365 and ERP systems
