Operations Manager
Location: Birmingham (On-site with occasional travel)
Salary: circa.£47,000 per annum + benefits

Are you an experienced operations professional with a technical background in waste management? We have an exciting opportunity for you to operationally lead a busy licensed waste management site in Birmingham.
About the Role
As Operations Manager, you will take full ownership of the site’s daily operations, ensuring compliance with all regulations, driving operational efficiency, and leading a committed team.
This role offers a senior leadership position with significant influence over site performance and culture.
You will manage production, transport, and administrative functions, working closely with central teams and other depots to share best practices and foster continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily site activities including production workflows, transport logistics, and administrative tasks
- Lead and support a diverse team of supervisors, operators, drivers, and office staff
- Ensure strict compliance with health and safety standards and licensed waste site regulations
- Manage material flows, driver schedules, and inventory control to optimise efficiency
- Coordinate resources during planned shutdowns or unexpected disruptions to maintain smooth operations
- Act as deputy to the General Manager when required
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness
- Maintain strong communication with internal departments, regulators, and external partners
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience managing operations within the waste management sector, ideally on a licensed site
- Relevant qualifications such as CPC and WAMITAB (or working towards)
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams
- Excellent knowledge of operational compliance and health and safety requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with KPI reporting; experience with SAP or Navision is advantageous
- Effective communication skills and a proactive, hands-on approach
