Civils Operative
Locations: Chelmsford (CM) , St Albans (AL), Stevenage (SG), Luton (LU), London (11 till 3)
Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for experienced Civils Operatives to join a growing telecommunications infrastructure team, delivering essential network installation and maintenance works across the UK. This role involves carrying out a range of civil engineering activities to support the installation and maintenance of underground utility networks while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out excavation and reinstatement works in public highways and footpaths in accordance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
- Install underground ducting, chambers and associated network infrastructure.
- Locate, diagnose and clear underground blockages within existing networks.
- Undertake rodding, roping and testing activities to prepare duct routes for cable installation.
- Complete reinstatement works in compliance with the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH).
- Operate mechanical and hand-held civil engineering equipment safely and effectively.
- Conduct site-specific risk assessments and identify potential hazards before commencing works.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations, company procedures and industry best practices.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to completed works.
- Liaise professionally with customers, local authorities, colleagues and other stakeholders on site.
- Represent the business in a professional manner at all times.
Requirements
- Previous experience within civil engineering, utilities, telecommunications or infrastructure projects.
- Full UK driving licence held for a minimum of 12 months with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Valid NRSWA Street Works qualifications, including LA1-8 units.
- Experience operating mechanical excavation and civil engineering equipment.
- Strong understanding of safe digging practices, including HSG47 guidelines.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent awareness of Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
