Senior Support Worker – Children’s Residential Home

Salary: £16 per hour dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: This role is 37 – 40 hours per week, worked on a rotating shift pattern including sleep‑ins paid additional.

The home will accommodate up to 3 young people with plans to accomplish further homes in Oldham and around Greater Manchester.

About the role:
As a Senior Support Worker, you will work in accordance with Lumin Care Homes' policies and procedures, the Care Standards Act 2000, Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Children Act 1989 and SCCIF requirements, ensuring these standards are consistently upheld.
You will work as part of a team to provide therapeutic care for young people living in our home, delivering trauma-informed support that responds to their individual needs with empathy and understanding.
The role requires active promotion of safeguarding, supporting children and young people to engage in their care plans and ensuring their views are considered in decisions about their lives and the home environment.
You will contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture, maintaining professional standards and supporting the effective operation of the home.
Responsibilities include supporting young people with daily living activities, facilitating family contact, attending appointments and promoting consistent engagement in education.
You will promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of care, ensuring children and young people are treated with fairness, dignity and respect.
You will attend and actively participate in team meetings, handovers and supervision sessions.
The role requires accurate and timely management of electronic records, ensuring all documentation is completed contemporaneously and maintained to a high standard.
You will encourage participation in recreational activities and support young people to develop new interests, skills and hobbies.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will act as shift leader, providing guidance and oversight to Residential Childcare Workers during shifts.
You will take responsibility for managing complex situations, responding to emergencies and making informed decisions in the absence of the Registered Manager, while maintaining high standards of safeguarding and quality of care.
We're looking for someone who is:
· Calm, empathetic, and able to model positive behaviour
· An effective communicator, both written and verbal
· Knowledgeable about safeguarding, risk management, and legislative requirements
· Reliable, organised, and able to work under pressure
· Passionate about providing high-quality care to young people
Essential Requirements:
· Experience working in a Children’s Residential Home
· Experience supporting children with emotional, behavioral and social issues.
· Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
· Ability to lead shifts and support a team
· A full UK driver’s licence
Desirable
· Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
· Supervisory or senior role experience

You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary, of £16 per hour dependent on experience with additional payments for sleep in shifts.
You will receive specific training, to enable you to work therapeutically with our young people, including attachment theories and PACE.
