Job Title: Baby Room LeaderJob Summary
We are looking for a passionate, nurturing, and confident Baby Room Leader to join our growing and expanding nursery. As a newly established setting with 7 vibrant classrooms and 3 dedicated extra-curricular spaces, we pride ourselves on creating an inspiring environment where children, families, and staff thrive.
The Baby Room Leader will take day-to-day responsibility for leading the baby room, supporting a small team, and delivering exceptional care and early learning experiences for our youngest children. This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of responsive caregiving, strong attachments, and meaningful interactions during the earliest stages of development. We believe that time spent engaging with children is far more valuable than excessive paperwork, which is why we operate a streamlined approach, with family communication focused on photos, shared moments, and genuine connections.
You will work closely with management to uphold our values, support staff development, and create a calm, nurturing, and stimulating environment where babies feel safe, secure, loved, and encouraged to explore the world around them.
This is a fantastic opportunity to grow with a nursery that is expanding, forward-thinking, and genuinely committed to staff wellbeing, professional trust, and exceptional care.
Main Duties
- Provide high-quality care and education for babies, ensuring their individual routines, needs, interests, and developmental stages are supported through responsive caregiving, sensory experiences, and meaningful interactions.
- Manage and oversee babies' individual daily routines, ensuring sleep times, meal times, and care routines are followed consistently and sensitively. Support each child's developmental stage, including familiarity with and guidance around the weaning process, while working closely with parents to maintain continuity between home and nursery.

- Plan and deliver age-appropriate experiences and activities in collaboration with the Manager and room team, supporting babies' learning and development through play, exploration, and routine-based learning opportunities.
- Act as a safeguarding lead within the room by following nursery safeguarding procedures and ensuring all team members do the same, maintaining a safe, secure, and nurturing environment at all times.
- Support children's development and wellbeing, including the early identification of additional or special educational needs, working closely with families, the Manager, and external professionals where required.
- Build positive, professional relationships with parents and carers, sharing children's experiences, developmental milestones, and daily routines while working in partnership to support each child's individual needs.
- Lead, support, and motivate the baby room team, promoting positive teamwork, effective communication, and consistently high standards of practice.
- Undertake supervision processes and attend management meetings as required, sharing relevant information and contributing to the wider nursery vision.
- Support staff development by mentoring colleagues, students, volunteers, and placements, providing guidance and encouragement to help them develop their skills and confidence.
- Ensure all required records relating to children's welfare, care routines, learning, and development are accurate and maintained in line with nursery procedures.
- Carry out regular room and outdoor safety checks, maintaining excellent standards of health, safety, hygiene, and cleanliness appropriate for babies and young children.
- Work closely with external agencies and professionals where appropriate, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Support the Manager and wider staff team in embedding and upholding the nursery's values, vision, and policies.
Experience
- Proven experience working within an early years or nursery setting, preferably with babies or children under two years old.
- Experience supporting children's care, development, and wellbeing within a baby room environment.
- A relevant Early Years qualification (or equivalent) appropriate to the role.
- The confidence and leadership skills to support, guide, and inspire a team.
