The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Electrical Assembly Technician / Wireperson to join our UK engineering team.
This role is based on-site and so applicant must live within commuting distance, have the right to work in the UK, be eligible for UK Security Clearance and have relevant marine/electrical systems.
This role is ideal for technicians with experience in electrical assembly, panel wiring, cable assembly, soldering, crimping, and working from technical drawings and wiring schematics.
You will work on the manufacture and assembly of advanced maritime systems, including control panels, racks, and electrical assemblies, using detailed production documentation and modern manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble wiring systems, racks, and enclosures in line with electrical drawings, schematics, and build specifications.
- Carry out cable preparation, routing, soldering, and crimping activities to required standards.
- Interpret and work from cable plans, layout drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Perform electrical testing, inspection, and fault-finding on on completed assemblies
- Create, update, and maintain manufacturing documentation including build instructions, quality checks, and tooling guides.
- Support the definition and improvement of manufacturing standards and production processes.
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to improve build quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with quality and safety requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities across the manufacturing lifecycle.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Practical experience in electrical assembly, panel wiring, or cable assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience with soldering, crimping, cable routing, and electrical termination techniques.
- Knowledge of electrical testing and fault-finding methods.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good organisational skills with a methodical approach to documentation and quality.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and continuous improvement.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a regulated engineering, defence, maritime, or manufacturing environment.
- HNC/HND qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or similar industry standard experience.
- Experience creating or maintaining manufacturing work instructions.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement practices.
Education
- Level 3 qualification (such as BTEC Level 3 Diploma, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds Level 3) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
