Student Industrial Placement – Chemistry / Chemical Engineering / Materials Science
Location: Derbyshire and Essex (split-site placement)
Duration: 3 Months (Summer Placement)
Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for ambitious undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience within a specialist manufacturing environment. This placement is ideal for those looking to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting while developing technical and professional skills.
Working across two UK sites, you will gain exposure to laboratory work, manufacturing processes, and technical operations within a highly regulated, safety-critical industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with laboratory testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products
- Support quality control and quality assurance activities
- Collect, analyse, and interpret laboratory and manufacturing data
- Contribute to product development and formulation improvement projects
- Support process optimisation initiatives within manufacturing
- Participate in technical investigations and root cause analysis
- Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations
- Support continuous improvement projects
- Learn and apply process safety principles within a high-hazard environment
- Work collaboratively with technical specialists across multiple departments
Candidate Requirements
Applicants must be currently studying one of the following (or a related discipline):
- Chemistry
- Chemical Engineering
- Materials Science
- Process Engineering
- Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Industrial or Applied Chemistry
You should also:
- Be in your 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate study
- Have a strong interest in chemistry, manufacturing, or technology
- Demonstrate good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Show excellent attention to detail
- Possess strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Be proactive, motivated, and eager to learn
- Have a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards
