Gardener (Bank)
Location – Longfield Hospice
Salary – £12.71 hourly rate
Hours – Bank / Flexible hours
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Gardener to support the maintenance of the gardens and grounds at Longfield Hospice. This role plays an important part in ensuring our outdoor spaces are safe, attractive, and welcoming for patients, families, carers, staff, and visitors.
You will help create a calm and pleasant environment, contributing to the wellbeing of everyone who visits or uses the hospice.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the hospice gardens and grounds to a consistently high standard
- Carry out routine gardening tasks including planting, pruning, weeding, and general upkeep
- Monitor plant health, identifying and addressing pests, diseases, and other issues
- Plant and maintain seasonal displays, including tubs and troughs, and support propagation of plants
- Work alongside the Maintenance Team to keep paths and surrounding areas clear, safe, and tidy
- Provide suggestions on garden design and overall appearance to support continuous improvement
- Support and oversee volunteer gardeners, promoting safe working practices
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
About You
You will have a genuine interest in horticulture and experience in garden maintenance. You will be proactive, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge and practical experience of horticulture and gardening
- Understanding of plant care and maintenance
- Good communication skills and a team-focused approach
- Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of a wide range of plants
- A positive attitude and commitment to maintaining high standards
