Automation Engineer – Belfast
Talent Curve Recruitment is managing a search for an experienced Automation Engineer to join a premier manufacturing and industrial systems provider based in Belfast. This permanent, site-based role focuses on leading the design, programming, and optimisation of advanced control systems, PLC networks, and digital manufacturing technologies.
Core Responsibilities
- Programming: Design, program, and commission PLC systems (primarily Siemens TIA Portal or Rockwell Studio 5000) and HMI/SCADA interfaces.
- System Integration: Oversee the integration of new automated machinery, robotic cells, and vision systems into existing industrial networks (Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
- Process Optimisation: Utilise advanced control logic to improve cycle times, eliminate bottlenecks, and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Advanced Diagnostics: Act as the senior technical escalation point for the maintenance department to resolve complex software and hardware automation faults.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all automation logic, safety PLCs, and hardware installations strictly comply with machinery safety standards and current electrical regulations.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of control system schematics, software version controls, and functional design specifications (FDS).
Candidate Profile
- Education: Degree or HND in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in a dedicated automation, controls, or systems engineering role within a manufacturing or process-heavy environment.
- Technical Skills: Proven expertise in PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text) and a deep understanding of variable speed drives (VSDs) and industrial sensors.
- Attributes: A methodical, safety-conscious problem-solver with excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Logistics: Full UK driving licence.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum (Negotiable based on experience).
