Waking Night Support Worker – Children’s Residential Care
We are looking for a dedicated Waking Night Support Worker to join our Children’s Residential Home in Birmingham. This is a full-time, permanent position working 10pm – 8am waking night shifts, supporting children and young people in a safe, nurturing residential setting.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in children’s residential care, support work, youth work, or safeguarding, who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overnight supervision and safeguarding for children and young people in the home
- Carry out regular welfare checks in line with care plans and safeguarding procedures
- Support young people who wake during the night and require reassurance or assistance
- Maintain a safe, calm, and structured residential environment overnight
- Complete night logs, incident reports, and daily records accurately
- Work in line with Ofsted regulations, safeguarding policies, and residential care standards
- Ensure the home remains clean, safe, and secure throughout the night
- Provide clear handover reports to the day team
Requirements
- Experience working as a Support Worker, Residential Support Worker, Night Support Worker, or Care Worker
- Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Ability to remain calm, attentive, and professional during night shifts
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable (but not essential)
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards)
- Previous experience in a Children’s Residential Home or supported living environment
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, behaviour support, or safeguarding frameworks
