The Role
We are seeking an experienced PCV Mechanic / PSV Technician to join our close-knit engineering team based in Ely. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive environment where your skills are valued, and your professional development is actively encouraged.
You will play a key role in maintaining our fleet to the highest safety and compliance standards, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, reliable, and presented to DVSA requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out routine servicing, inspections, maintenance, and repairs on the company’s PCV fleet in line with DVSA standards
- Preparing vehicles for annual test and ensuring ongoing compliance
- Diagnosing faults using modern diagnostic equipment and identifying effective repair solutions
- Attending and resolving roadside breakdowns when required
- Accurately completing all maintenance records using the company’s real-time electronic vehicle maintenance system
- Participating in an out-of-hours emergency breakdown rota, providing first-line technical support (shared across the engineering team)
- Complying with all internal engineering SOPs and VOSA/DVSA testing requirements
- Supporting ad-hoc engineering projects as required
- Maintaining and developing technical competence through ongoing training and development
About You
You will ideally have:
- IRTEC accreditation, or be apprentice-trained and fully qualified as a PCV Mechanic / PSV Technician / HGV Fitter
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience maintaining and repairing PCV/PSV/HGV vehicles
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, powertrains, and vehicle electrics
- A current PCV licence, or a willingness to obtain one (training provided) to facilitate road and brake testing
- A proactive, reliable, and team-focused approach to work
Working Hours & Pay
- 45–55 hours per week, working on a rota within the engineering team
- Shifts between 6:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Friday
- Overtime available in the evenings and weekends, paid at time and a half
- Salary range £46,000 – £51,000 per annum, dependent on capability and experience
