Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 20 Hours per week
Shift Pattern: 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday, Flexitime from 09:00 to 14:00
Salary: £13.62 per hour

PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To prepare, cook and serve school meals: high quality food and drink, in an efficient and effective manner, minimising waste. To ensure the smooth running of the kitchen, and (where relevant) to supervise, lead and motivate the team to deliver a high standard of service. To be responsible for hygiene and cleanliness within food preparation areas. To always operate in a safe manner, observing company health and safety and allergen policies and guidelines.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Catering and Standards
- Prepare and cook food and drink in a hygienic and safe manner, following assigned procedures at all times.
- Monitoring the quality of the food and service provided, and ensuring that your site performs well - achieving good quality product and service on time and within budget.
- Complete and maintain relevant records (e.g. Quality Assurance documentation; Health & Safety records; training logs; timesheets etc.) accurately and on time
- Be punctual with your time-keeping; operating a quick and efficient catering service without compromising on quality of the service delivered.
- Monitor and advise on stock usage, ensuring food stocks don’t run out, ordering stock as and when required.
- Ensure that catering preparation, service and storage areas are kept in a hygienic, clean, tidy and safe condition at all times.
- Ensure uniforms are worn at all times on site; displaying a professional image of our company.
- Unloading of deliveries from suppliers and storing items safely and in the correct locations.
- Reporting any problems or broken equipment to your Line Manager as soon as possible.
- Ensure that tasks are undertaken and completed in accordance with the contract
- Undertake training as necessary to maintain the requirements of the contract
- Customer Service and Teamwork.
Leadership and Customer Service
(_Note_: not all Kitchen Team leaders will have a team, so not all of the requirements below will be relevant)
- Induct, train and advise the team on how to prepare food and drink to the standards identified in the contract
- Be the point of contact for your team with any personnel queries, dealing with or referring to the correct person
- Be the point of contact for the site customer with any issues or queries, resolving where appropriate
- Have a clear understanding of customer service guidelines/principles
- Display a positive attitude to your work and be a communicative and proactive leader of the team
- Build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, customers and contractors
- Understand the customer’s service requirements, participating in the development of service provision in conjunction with the Coordinators and Account Managers
Health, Safety and Environment
- Act responsibly in relation to all matters which may affect the Health and Safety of yourselves and others whilst on Company premises, customers’ premises and travelling between sites, and to adhere to safety regulations at all times
- Observe all safety procedures and instructions and assist in maintaining a safe workplace and reporting any accidents, hazards, near misses, damages or defects to tools and equipment to the appropriate person
- Wear appropriate protective equipment (PPE) and use any safety devices provided by the company at the relevant times
- Only use equipment that you’ve been trained to use
Qualifications & Experience:
- Essential: High volume/high standard cooking experience (2+ years)
- Kitchen/catering experience (2+ years)
- Supervisory/team leader experience (1+ years)
- Proficient using IT systems – Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word etc
- Level 2 (or higher) Food Hygiene certification
- Desirable: Experience in school kitchens as team leader/supervisor
