Substance Misuse Nurse
Location: Lewisham, Greater London
Pay: £35 per hour
Contract: Temporary,3 months
Hours: 30 hours per week
Seven Resourcing is currently recruiting for an experienced Substance Misuse Nurse in London to join a specialist drug and alcohol service. This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse with substance misuse experience to make a meaningful impact within a multidisciplinary healthcare team supporting individuals affected by addiction and dependency.
About the Role
As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care to individuals experiencing drug and alcohol dependency. You will play a key role in assessment, detoxification, harm reduction, and recovery planning, helping service users achieve long-term positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments for service users
- Complete alcohol and opiate assessments, including safe detoxification planning
- Support and manage community detox programmes
- Assist with opiate substitute treatment (OST) titration and optimisation
- Deliver harm reduction interventions and health promotion advice
- Provide screening, education, and vaccination for blood borne viruses (BBV)
- Carry out phlebotomy and interpret clinical results
- Deliver wound care and general healthcare interventions
- Train staff and service users in Naloxone use, ensuring consistent distribution
- Support service users through one-to-one and group interventions
- Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records
- Ensure compliance with NICE guidelines and UK clinical best practice
Requirements
- Valid NMC registration (Registered Nurse)
- Proven experience in substance misuse nursing, drug and alcohol services, or addiction services
- Strong understanding of harm reduction, detoxification, and recovery models
- Experience delivering clinical assessments and managing risk
- Phlebotomy skills (or willingness to train)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate, non-judgemental approach to patient care
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or bank holidays where required
