Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Nursery School in Chiswick as a Kitchen Assistant. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children, ensuring food safety standards are maintained at all times. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a nurturing environment while developing culinary skills within a childcare setting. The position is paid and suitable for someone passionate about food preparation and working with young children.
The job is Monday to Friday and hours of work are 8 am to 3 pm (1 hour unpaid lunch break in-between)
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks in accordance with nursery guidelines
- Assist with meal planning and ensure variety and nutritional balance in menus
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, adhering to food safety regulations
- Support with basic cooking tasks, including food preparation and presentation
- Ensure all food handling complies with hygiene standards and health & safety policies
- Assist in managing stock levels, including ordering supplies as needed
- Collaborate with nursery staff to ensure smooth mealtime routines and positive dining experiences for children
Qualifications
- Previous experience in food preparation or catering, ideally within a childcare or nursery environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Experience in cooking, meal preparation, or working in a restaurant or kitchen setting is desirable
- Ability to work efficiently and safely in a busy kitchen environment
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Friendly, reliable, and able to work as part of a team
- Basic understanding of nutrition for young children is advantageous
