These posts offer excellent experience within the medical division in different sub-specialties, with either 4 or 6 month rotations in General Medicine including: Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Respiratory Medicine, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Care of the Elderly and Stroke.
These posts are not recognised for training but will offer a similar experience as the Trainees who share the rota. The posts are initially for 12 months
There would be an expectation to undertake the full time equivalent of out of hours and weekend work as part of the Medical on-call rota for all posts.
To provide sufficient cover for leave and general medicine out of hours commitments, the post-holders may at various times have to work on different wards within the medicine department.
Please note this advert may close early if we have sufficient applications
We expect the post-holders to:
- Attend daily ward rounds and “huddles”
- Support daily Consultant Ward rounds
- Request investigations/treatment for patients as necessary
- Provide cover for colleagues in emergency and unforeseen situations
- Participate at teaching and regular clinical meetings held within the hospital

Professional Development, Education and Training
We recognise the importance of continuing medical education and actively encourage professional development. There is an active Post Graduate Medical Centre at both Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital with excellent library and skills facilities on both sites.
Most specialty departments run their own dedicated teaching programmes and the Medical Directorate holds a weekly Grand Round.
In order to support ongoing career development, a half day a fortnight of Self Development Time will be offered, subject to overall staffing across your department and the Medical division.
This time should be used for activities such as QIP, research, teaching experience in other specialities and exam preparation.
Research and Development
The Trust has been widely praised for its approach to Quality Improvement. You will be encouraged to contribute to both audit and QI projects within all departments.
There are opportunities to join Quality Improvement training courses tun by the Trust.
Communications and Working Relationships
Multidisciplinary collaboration: You will work closely with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care delivery and optimal patient outcomes.
Clinical Governance
All departments will hold directorate, audit and Morbidity & Mortality meetings. Our Trust has a well-established framework for clinical governance that incorporates our clinical audit program.
