Gag Reflex is a Manchester-based comedy talent agency and production company, founded in 2007 out of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We represent a roster of touring comedy and entertainment artists, and work across live touring, commercial engagements, and production. We're a small, close-knit team (around eight of us) who care about doing right by the artists and clients we work with.
The Role
We're looking for a Financial Assistant to support the day-to-day financial operations of the agency. You'll keep our books accurate and up to date, help process artist and tour income, and give the wider team reliable, timely financial information. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the detail of finance but also likes the variety and pace of the live entertainment industry.
Reporting to: Director
Hours: Part-time — 3 days per week (24 hours total)
Location: Manchester (hybrid working considered)
Salary: £19,000 gross per annum
Key Responsibilities
- Process purchase and sales invoices, and maintain accurate ledgers
- Raise invoices to venues, promoters and clients, and track payments
- Process artist fees, settlements, and touring expenses, working closely with tour managers
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements
- Support month-end processes and basic management accounts
- Assist with payroll administration and expense claims
- Help track budgets across productions and tours
- Support VAT record-keeping and returns
- Liaise with our external accountants to support year-end accounts
- Maintain organised financial records and filing systems
- General administrative support to the finance and wider team as needed
What We're Looking For
- Experience in a bookkeeping, accounts, or finance assistant role
- Working knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Good working knowledge of Excel/spreadsheets
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable managing multiple income streams and irregular payment patterns (touring income can be seasonal and variable)
- Good communication skills, including confidence liaising with artists, venues and suppliers
- Able to work independently and manage their own workload
- AAT Level 3 or above (essential)
- A genuine interest in comedy, live events, or the entertainment industry is a bonus
