Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable part-time carer to support an elderly couple in their home in the NW11 area of Barnet, London. This is a visiting care role.
About the Care Recipients The role involves supporting two clients: a female care recipient who is nearly 80 and a male care recipient aged 86. The female client lives with arthritis and gout, which significantly limit her mobility, and she now requires hands-on assistance with personal care, particularly showering. The male client is more active and currently manages much of the cooking and household tasks, however he is becoming increasingly fatigued and less mobile, and would benefit from support to ease his daily responsibilities. Both clients manage their own medical administration but would appreciate assistance in keeping this organised.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal care: Assisting the female client with showering and other personal care tasks as needed, carried out with dignity and sensitivity
- Meal preparation: Preparing nutritious meals and snacks to reduce the burden on the male client, who currently handles most of the cooking
- Medication & medical admin support: Helping both clients stay organised with their medical appointments, prescriptions, and related paperwork — note that the clients self-manage their medications
- Companionship: Providing warm, genuine companionship to both clients, engaging them in conversation and offering social stimulation
- Light housekeeping: Supporting with general tidying and household tasks as needed (please note a separate cleaner already attends the home once a week)
- Mobility support: Assisting with safe movement around the home, particularly for the female client
Schedule Starting with 2 hours on 2 days a week, then soon after moving to 3 hours on 3 days, and so on etc.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and experienced in providing personal care to older adults. Experience supporting clients with arthritis, limited mobility, or age-related conditions is highly desirable. You should be comfortable working with a couple simultaneously, adapting your support to the differing needs of each individual during each visit. Strong organisational skills will be an asset given the medical admin component of the role.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the daily lives of two people who are committed to maintaining their independence at home. If you are a caring, professional, and dependable individual who takes pride in the quality of support you provide, we would love to hear from you.
Pay: £18.00-£20.00 per hour
