SEN Teacher
Key Stages: KS3 & KS4
Mission: Turn challenges into breakthroughs and help every student find their way forward.
About the Role:
This isn’t your average teaching role - and that’s exactly the point.
You’ll be working with incredible young people who may find school (and life) a bit tougher than most. They might struggle with emotions, behaviour, or learning differences—but with the right support, they can absolutely thrive.
That’s where you come in.
As an SEN Teacher, you’ll create a classroom that feels safe, structured, and inspiring. You’ll teach core subjects through a primary-style model, build strong relationships, and adapt everything to meet the unique needs of your students.
You’re not just teaching lessons - you’re changing trajectories.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Plan and deliver engaging, highly tailored lessons across core subjects
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment
- Use creative, adaptive teaching strategies to meet a wide range of needs (including ASC and learning difficulties)
- Track both academic progress and emotional development (because both matter)
- Use tools like Boxall Profiles to understand and support student growth
- Build strong relationships with students—be the adult who “gets it”
- Champion your students across the school and advocate for their needs
- Design a flexible, topic-based curriculum that brings learning to life
- Work closely with TAs, HLTAs, and external specialists to support each learner
- Support behaviour with consistency, empathy, and clear boundaries
- Keep accurate records and contribute to EHCPs and reviews
- Stay on top of attendance, wellbeing, and safeguarding
What Makes You Great at This:
- You have experience working with SEN/SEMH students
- You can teach Maths and English with confidence
- You understand that one size never fits all
- You’re calm under pressure and consistent in your approach
- You communicate clearly - with students, families, and colleagues
- You see potential where others might see barriers
Bonus Points If You Have:
- QTS or PGCE
- Experience with Boxall Profiles or PACE approaches
- A driving licence (for those occasional off-site adventures)
Beyond the Classroom:
- Build strong partnerships with parents and carers
- Work with external professionals (CAMHS, NHS, social care, EPs, etc.)
- Help shape whole-school SEND practice and improvement
- Contribute to training, development, and the wider school vision
The Important Stuff:
- Safeguarding is at the heart of everything you do
- You’ll follow school policies and professional standards
- You’ll take responsibility for your own development
- You’ll help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all
Why This Role Matters:
Because for some students, school hasn’t always felt like a place they belong.
You have the chance to change that.
To be the teacher who makes learning accessible, builds trust, and helps them believe in themselves again.
