As an Engagement & Experience Officer working out of hours, you will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for the students who live with us. During night and weekend shifts, you will act as the first point of contact on site, offering calm and proactive support whenever it’s needed. From responding to minor or emergency repairs to assisting with student queries or signposting pastoral care, you will ensure every situation is handled with professionalism and care.
Your presence helps maintain the security and smooth running of our buildings. You will monitor access, conduct routine patrols, address hazards or unacceptable behaviour, and operate security equipment to respond to unexpected situations. You will also support essential site tasks, including maintaining waste areas, completing inspections, securing buildings, and carrying out light administrative duties within our internal systems.
Safeguarding and wellbeing are central to this role. You will document concerns, follow internal processes, and escalate issues appropriately. You may also support viewings for prospective students and check in with current residents to ensure they are having an excellent experience. Above all, you will help every student feel safe, supported and at home throughout their stay.
As an Engagement & Experience Officer (out of hours), a typical shift during the night and at weekends might include:

Provide duty of care and be a first point of call on site, providing a dynamic and considered response which includes, but not limited to, minor/emergency repairs, student queries and signposting for pastoral care.

Monitor and control access to sites, assisting authorised visitors where necessary in a welcoming and professional manner.

Conduct and record routine external and internal patrols of the site, and address any hazards such as intruders, unacceptable behaviour or damage.

Our peoples experience whilst they stay with us is key, so you will be an advocate of dealing with any issues when they arise and help in the event of incident or emergency.

Monitor and maintain order and rotation in the waste stores on site to ensure a safe and clean environment

Operate and manage security equipment installed on the premises, responding to unusual and unexpected situations.

Document and report any student problems or any unusual behaviours following internal processes and systems.

Ensuring all buildings are secured by adhering to the locking and unlocking processes including key controls.

Dealing with light administration to support our people and any necessary processes within Acis and the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems that we use.

Having a key focus and awareness of safeguarding and the wellbeing of our people, ensuring that any concerns are dealt with or escalated immediately.

Following up on enquiries, checking in to ensure our people are having an excellent experience, and supporting when it is not achieved.

Completing inspections as part of the team to ensure that our people's flats are being well kept and provide an opportunity to engage with our people.

Ad hoc viewings of the show flat to prospective students and their families.

Void flushing and support with any building safety or health and safety tasks and maintenance as and when required.

You will have a friendly, approachable manner and be willing to go above and beyond to help our students

Flexibility is a must, whilst you will have a set shift pattern, you will be part of a team who work together to ensure we maintain cover across all evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

First aid trained

MHFA trained (or a willingness to complete the training course)

SIA Licence holder (that covers security guarding and CCTV operation)

Conflict Management

Drug and Alcohol Awareness

Personal Safety / Protection

Good technical skills with the ability to use systems and software such as CCTV, Microsoft packages (e.g. Word, Office, Teams), fob and database/CRM

General awareness of health and safety and building management

Are comfortable with, and can engage with people both 1-2-1 and in groups
- Strong communicator both verbally and in writing, with excellent customer service experience and skills
-
Ability to work as a team, under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
-
A good understanding of the barriers faced by people, and the solutions that may be able to benefit them

Ability to work collaboratively with others, whether in the same team or external support providers
-
Good IT skills
-
You’re a positive, energised and enthusiastic person, with a real zest for helping others who is confident and calm in an emergency
What will make you stand out from the crowd:

A Drivers Licence would be a great addition as there may be a requirement to cover other sites in emergency situations

An understanding of the different local services available for customers

Experience working with University Students or within an accommodation environment
