We are looking for a passionate Youth Worker to lead a new provision for young people aged 11–13. You will run a weekly session, support staff and help young people build confidence through creative and engaging opportunities, including media and podcasting. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about digital content creation and youth engagement. Our team needs someone who understands inner-city challenges and is committed to supporting young people from diverse and marginalised backgrounds.
About Imayla
Imayla CIC supports children, young people and families through outdoor, creative and culturally relevant youth work. We work with many young people from marginalised communities, including Black and Brown children, refugees and those at risk of exclusion or exploitation. Our work builds confidence, independence and wellbeing through relationships, nature, creativity and new experiences, including trips and residential opportunities outside of the city.
Job Purpose
To lead and deliver high-quality youth work, with a focus on young people aged 11–13 who are not yet ready to transition into older youth provision. The role will run one weekly session, oversee two additional sessions, support staff and develop a youth-led media and podcast space. The post will strengthen pathways for young people, ensuring inclusive, safe and engaging provision in the East Central area.
Key Responsibilities
1. Youth Work Delivery
- Plan and deliver a weekly session for 11–13 year olds (transitional group)
- Build relationships with young people facing challenges or disengagement
- Ensure sessions are inclusive, culturally responsive and youth-led
2. Oversight of Sessions
- Supervise two additional youth sessions
- Support staff with planning, delivery and behaviour management
- Ensure consistency, quality and safeguarding across provision
3. Youth Media & Studio
- Support use of a pre-established youth podcast/media studio
- Enable young people to create content (podcasts, video, storytelling)
- Encourage creative expression and digital skills development
4. Staff Support & Planning
- Contribute to termly team planning
- Attend bi-monthly planning with lead staff and Operations Director
- Support staff expectations and consistency
5. Partnerships & Youth Hub
- Work closely with partner organisations and Youth Hub networks
- Promote Imayla opportunities and support referrals
- Build links with schools and community organisations
6. Programme Delivery
- Support holiday programmes, trips and residentials
- Ensure young people shape activities and opportunities
7. Monitoring & Safeguarding
- Record outcomes using Upshot & Plinth
- Use BrightHR & BrightSafe for timesheets, risk assessments and compliance
- Follow safeguarding procedures at all times
8. Budget & Resources
- Manage a small sessional budget
- Ensure value for money and effective use of resources
9. Professional Development
- Engage in training and reflective practice
- Develop knowledge in youth work, safeguarding and media
Person Specification:
Essential
- Level 3 Youth Work qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Experience working with marginalised young people
- Strong understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion
- Experience supporting staff
- IT skills for admin and systems
- Interest or experience in media/podcasting
- Budget awareness
Desirable
- JNC qualification
- Experience with 11–13 age group
- Partnership working experience
- Residential/trip delivery experience
- Interest and experience in digital media production
