GraftinGardeners Ltd is a family run tree surgery and landscaping company based in Leatherhead, working across London, Surrey and the South East.
We are looking for an experienced Yard Operative / Mechanic to join our team.
This is a hands on role that combines mechanical work with the day to day running of a busy yard. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our vehicles, trailers, arboricultural machinery and landscaping equipment, while helping keep the yard organised, safe and ready for work.
Applicants must have practical mechanical experience and be confident carrying out servicing, fault finding and repairs on commercial vehicles, trailers, wood chippers, stump grinders and other arboricultural machinery.
Main Duties
- Servicing, maintaining and repairing company vans, tipper trucks, trailers and machinery
- Carrying out routine inspections and reporting defects
- Servicing, maintaining and repairing wood chippers, stump grinders, excavators, loaders, mowers and other arboricultural and landscaping equipment
- Checking oil, coolant, tyres, lights and general vehicle condition
- Keeping maintenance records up to date
- Organising and managing spare parts and consumable stock
- Keeping the workshop, stores and yard clean, tidy and organised
- Loading and unloading vehicles, machinery and materials
- Assisting with machinery breakdowns and repairs
- Carrying out general repairs and maintenance around the yard
- Supporting the wider team with practical day to day tasks

Essential Requirements
- Previous mechanical experience
- Experience working on commercial vehicles, vans, tipper trucks and trailers
- Experience maintaining arboricultural machinery such as wood chippers, stump grinders and related equipment
- Good fault finding and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Full UK driving licence
- Good understanding of vehicle and machinery maintenance
