UCLIC is a world leading Centre of Excellence in Human-Computer Interaction teaching and research, studying interactions between people and technology, drawing on the best scientific traditions in Computer Science and Human Sciences, and working collaboratively with the research community and industry.
The role will be primarily based within the UCL Interaction Centre, however, staff have fruitful interactions with both parent departments regardless of individual affiliation. This position is part of an EPSRC-funded Programme grant “From Sensing to Collaboration: Engineering, Exploring and Exploiting the Building Blocks of Embodied Interaction”. This is a collaboration between the University College London and the Oxford Institute of Robotics.
You will contribute to finalize the outcome (eg paper writing, analysis) of various threads of the EPSRC funded project investigating the role and type of tactile interactions in various applications: 1) occupational therapy assessment and how touch is modulated to address the psychological needs of the client being assessed; 2) social robots and touch in textile-based design, repair and learning; and 3) social robots for elderly companionship. The role will involve interacting with the interdisciplinary teams of Computer Scientists, Roboticists, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Textile experts, sensitive populations as the project requires.
