Seven Resourcing are recruiting for a Workshop Shift Manager to join a busy fleet and transport operation in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced workshop professional or fleet maintenance supervisor to lead a large operational team within a fast-paced local authority environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a vehicle workshop, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance of a large fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role is offered on a temporary basis to provide cover during a secondment.
The Role
As Workshop Shift Manager, you will oversee workshop operations and ensure all planned maintenance, reactive repairs, inspections, and testing are completed to the highest standards and within legal compliance requirements. You will play a key role in maintaining fleet availability and supporting frontline operational services across the city.
You will manage a team of approximately 14 operational staff and help drive performance, productivity, safety, and compliance across the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the vehicle workshop
- Ensure all maintenance, inspections, and testing are completed in line with legislation and VOSA requirements
- Supervise and support a team of workshop and operational staff
- Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled vehicle maintenance activities
- Monitor workshop productivity and fleet availability
- Ensure compliance with operator licence obligations and health & safety standards
- Support the delivery and management of workshop policies, procedures, and service improvements
- Assist with budget management and cost control within a large maintenance operation
- Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records
Applicant Requirements
- Experience managing or supervising within a fleet maintenance or workshop environment
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance compliance and inspection standards
- Understanding of VOSA regulations and operator licence requirements
- Experience leading operational teams in a fast-paced environment
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Ability to manage workloads, deadlines, and operational priorities effectively
- Previous local authority or public sector experience is desirable but not essential
