What we are looking for from you:
- Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People or equivalent (preferred)
· A good knowledge and understanding around managing challenging behaviours would also be key to this role and well as being an exceptional communicator and be able to build key relationships with young people and their families.
- Experience in a children's home setting (desired)
- Passion to help nurture young people
- Be able to work shift patterns including sleep ins (Rota plan given in advance)
- Full, UK driving licence (desired)
- All candidates must be over the age of 21 to meet industry regulations
Successful candidates are subject to reference checks, enhanced DBS and right to work in line with government regulations and Safer Recruitment Practices.
The role of a support worker worker will involve:
- Contributing to the young person’s care plans and risk assessments, their review and implementation
- Forming effective relationships with young people, their families (if appropriate) and external agencies
- Ensuring the home is kept clean and in a tidy condition, adhering to the cleaning rota system, encouraging the young people to participate as appropriate
- Ensuring that good quality records are maintained as required with supervision and advice from shift and Managers.
- Maintaining and promoting residential care work to high levels of professionalism expected by YLCS and Ofsted
- Contributing to the educational and social development of each young person and assisting in the implementation of Individual Education Programs
- Meeting the emotional and physical needs of our young people and maximising opportunities for their development
- Providing support to the deputy/manager of the home whilst on shift and performing senior duties as directed
- Making sure residential staff are supported and are fulfilling their required tasks and implement managerial advice.

About YLCS (Opal House)
Young Living Children’s Services (Opal House) is a privately-owned Residential Children’s Home which provides quality care for up to 3 young people aged 4 to 18 located in Kettering, Northamptonshire. We ensure that we provide intensive individual attention that enables us to form positive relationships with all our Young People. We believe that stability, support and feeling safe are key to the development of the Young People we care for. Delivering a tailored approach to each child and a flexible care for those with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties who are emotionally vulnerable and occasionally challenging. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and requires an enhanced DBS check with a Children’s Barred List check.
Please note this role involves working in regulated activity with Children. It is an offence for people who are barred from working in regulated activity to apply for roles that require them to work unsupervised with Children.
