The Role
Are you an experienced Payroll Manager looking to lead a high-performing team within a large, fast-paced shared services environment?
We’re recruiting for a Shared Services Payroll Manager to join a well-established organisation operating a complex multi-entity payroll function. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of payroll operations, lead a talented team, and play a key role in driving continuous improvement across the payroll service.
Reporting to the Head of Payroll, you’ll oversee the accurate and compliant delivery of payroll services across multiple business units while supporting ongoing business growth, transformation projects, and process improvements.
This role offers a great blend of operational leadership, stakeholder engagement, team development, and strategic payroll improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop a payroll team within a busy shared services environment
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of multiple payrolls across various legal entities
- Maintain compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Drive payroll process improvements, efficiencies and system enhancements
- Manage payroll projects and support wider business change initiatives
- Develop team capability through coaching, mentoring and succession planning
- Build strong relationships with HR, Finance and operational stakeholders
- Oversee payroll reconciliations, audits, controls and year-end activities
- Ensure payroll processes remain scalable and fit for purpose as the organisation continues to grow
- Support the delivery of an exceptional payroll service to employees and stakeholders
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll be an experienced payroll leader with strong technical payroll knowledge and a passion for developing people and improving processes.
You’ll ideally have:
- Previous experience managing payroll teams within a large, high-volume payroll environment
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, compliance and HMRC requirements
- Experience managing payrolls across multiple entities and employee groups
- Knowledge of Benefits in Kind, salary sacrifice schemes and payroll reconciliations
- Understanding of statutory payments, including Shared Parental Leave
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience identifying and implementing payroll process improvements
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach
- Experience using ADP payroll systems would be advantageous
