Zen Educate is looking for compassionate, skilled, and experienced Teaching Assistants to support children and young people aged 3–19 with a range of complex needs, including PMLD, autism, SEMH, and non-verbal communication.
This setting provides a nurturing, “home away from home” environment where pupils are supported both in the classroom and through real-life experiences. The focus is on building confidence, independence, and meaningful participation in daily activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with complex needs including PMLD, autism, SEMH, and non-verbal learners
- Use communication strategies such as PECS, PECA, and AAC devices to support engagement
- Assist with and implement speech and language strategies alongside specialists
- Provide support with PEG feeding (training/experience required)
- Deliver and support Attention Autism sessions and autism-specific approaches
- Provide personal care as a standard and essential part of the role
- Encourage pupils to engage, participate, and develop confidence in all activities
- Support development of life skills through:
- Apartment-style independent living setups
- Community-based activities such as shopping and café/bistro visits
- Developing understanding and use of money
- Maintain a positive, calm environment with minimal behavioural support needs
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience supporting children or young people with additional needs
- Strong knowledge and understanding of autism and associated strategies
- Experience using PECS, PECA, AAC devices, and supporting speech & language development
- Experience or willingness to be trained in PEG feeding
- Comfortable providing personal care
- Patient, proactive, and nurturing approach
- Ability to commit to a full-time, long-term role
