Early Years Nursery Supervisor (Level 3+ Term time only)
Location: Dechrau Dysgu, CF629DU
Hours: 8.30am – 3:00pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Term Time Only
Break: 30 minutes unpaid
About the Role
Dechrau Dysgu is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Early Years Supervisor to join our friendly team. This is a leadership role focused on supporting staff and helping to manage the day-to-day running of the nursery.
The successful candidate will mainly work alongside the Manager to oversee the setting, support staff, organise rotas, maintain records, and ensure high standards of care and education. You will not usually be counted in staff-to-child ratios unless required.
We are a Welsh-medium setting. Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential, as training will be provided. Candidates who do not currently speak Welsh must be willing to undertake Welsh language training.
We are currently working towards Curiosity Approach Accreditation, so knowledge or experience of the Curiosity Approach would be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the daily management and smooth running of the nursery.
- Lead, motivate, and support staff to deliver high-quality childcare.
- Create and manage staff rotas while maintaining correct child-to-staff ratios.
- Work closely with the Manager, who is based at Gibbonsdown Children's Centre.
- Operate a key person system and build positive relationships with parents and carers.
- Plan and implement engaging activities that support children's individual interests and development.
- Promote good practice and maintain high standards across the setting.
- Support children's learning and development in line with the Curiosity Approach.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
- Work effectively as part of a professional and motivated team.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Early Years Childcare Qualification (or above).
- Experience working in a senior role within an early years setting.
- Strong knowledge of child development.
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and working with external agencies.
- Experience managing staff and supporting team development.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Reliable, confident, and able to lead a team effectively.
- Passion for providing high-quality care and education for young children.
- Commitment to building strong partnerships with families.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Welsh speaking.
- Knowledge of Flying Start.
- Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
- Current Safeguarding Certificate.
- Enhanced DBS (or transferable DBS).
- Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Prevent/WRAP Training.
