Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our transport function, managing a fleet of approximately 20 drivers, agency drivers and sub-contractors. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to oversee and manage our transport operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and excellent service delivery.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the transport function, maintaining legal compliance, managing drivers and fleet performance, and ensuring operational efficiency across the department.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day transport operations, ensuring deliveries are completed efficiently and on time.
- Ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, including operator licence requirements, tachograph regulations, drivers hours, and vehicle compliance.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the garage and mechanic, to maximise vehicle availability and best use of fleet.
- Recruit, manage and support drivers, including performance, absence, investigations and training.
- Develop and implement effective category management strategies to optimise transportation costs and service levels.
- Monitor transport KPIs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and continuous improvement.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, compliance and teamwork
- Coordinate with third-party logistics providers (3PL) to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and service standards.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations during all logistics activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve overall supply chain efficiency through process enhancements.
Skills
- Previous experience in a Transport Manager role.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.
- A valid International Transport Managers CPC qualification (essential)
- Experience of managing drivers and transport operations.
- Experience working with third-party logistics providers (3PL).
- Excellent organisational and problem solving skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- The ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.
