Workshop Controller – Prestige Commercial Dealership | Derby
We are seeking an exceptional Workshop Controller to join a high-performing, prestige commercial vehicle dealership in Nottingham. This is a pivotal leadership role within a professional Aftersales operation, offering the opportunity to work within a brand-led, customer-focused environment where standards are paramount.
As the central link between the workshop and Service Reception, you will play a critical role in driving operational excellence, maximising productivity, and ensuring an outstanding customer experience at every stage of the aftersales journey.
The Opportunity
This is not just a coordination role—it’s a position of influence. You will take full control of workshop flow, ensuring work is planned, prioritised, and executed to the highest standards expected within a prestige dealership environment.
Working closely with the Service Manager, you will lead from the front, supporting technicians, maintaining momentum across the workshop, and ensuring all customer commitments are delivered on time, every time.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and control the day-to-day operations of a busy, high-performing workshop
- Strategically allocate work to optimise technician efficiency and workshop utilisation
- Monitor productivity, efficiency, and departmental KPIs, driving continuous improvement
- Plan and manage workshop loading to ensure seamless workflow and timely job completion
- Act as the key liaison between Service Advisors and the workshop, ensuring clear communication and accurate job planning
- Support vehicle sales operations through timely completion of PDI and vehicle preparation
- Lead daily production and performance meetings, ensuring clear direction and accountability
- Proactively identify bottlenecks and implement effective operational solutions
- Coach, mentor, and support the workshop team to maximise performance and engagement
- Identify training and development needs to build a high-performing, future-ready team
About You
- Proven experience as a Workshop Controller or Senior Technician within a commercial vehicle or main dealership environment
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate and manage a skilled team
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Commercially aware, with a strong focus on efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction
- Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively across technical and customer-facing teams
- A proactive, solutions-driven mindset with a commitment to high standards
