Job Summary
The Local Recycling Group is no ordinary scrapyard. We’re part of the award-winning Scrap Local network, and we’re on a mission to do things differently.
We’re looking for a hands-on, safety-conscious Depollution Operative with a valid forklift licence and the skills to use our digital system to join our busy scrapyard in Darwen. You’ll be right at the heart of the action, depolluting end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) of hazardous fluids and materials and getting them ready for dismantling or recycling.

You’ll hit the ground running.
If not, don’t worry, we provide all the necessary training.
All we ask is that you’re reliable, willing to learn, and up for joining a friendly team that works hard, looks out for each other, and takes pride in doing things properly.
knowing your way around a vehicle as a mechanic and knowing your way around a spanner and sockets is advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Removing fluids, batteries, tyres, and other hazardous components from scrap vehicles
- Following ATF regulations and keeping safety front of mind
- Keeping your work area clean, organised, and compliant
- Working closely with our vehicle dismantlers, business operations, machine operators and the rest of the team to keep things moving
- Logging depollution work into our system, tracking where each vehicle is going, and keeping accurate digital records
- Supporting general yard duties
- Accurately documenting depollution work
Requirements
- Forklift license - essential
- Experience working in a scrapyard, mechanic/garage, or mechanical role is essential
- Basic vehicle knowledge and a practical mindset
- Comfortable using apps/technology and able to pick up new systems quickly
- A team player with great communication skills
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all seasons
- Safety-first approach with great attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and take on new skills
- Have a valid drivers license
