Job Overview
Our Community Hosts Roles are an exciting opportunity for people who are
passionate about building community, enjoy bringing people together, and
thrive in the dynamic and exciting ‘set-up' phase of a project. Leveraging the
resource of Lambert House, this unique opportunity involves a small group of
committed individuals moving into Lambert House, increasing capacity for
community engagement and community building in Tarring, using the house as
a hospitable and welcoming space. You’ll live in Lambert House for a subsidised rent, and you’ll volunteer half your working week (17.5 hours) to building a community in Tarring and supporting the Lambert Community Space project.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We’re looking for people who are passionate about building community and serving their local area. We’re in the very early stages of this project, so we’re looking for people who are energised by setting up new things; turning ideas into action; and thinking creatively. We’re planning to have a small team of hosts, working alongside local volunteers and with the support of an experienced community worker - so you’ll need to enjoy collaborative working. Experience in community development or engagement, the charity sector, or voluntary roles is desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – Getting to know the people in the
neighbourhood; investing in relationships, bringing people together, recruiting
volunteers and carrying out community consultation and co-design
PROJECT INNOVATION – Exploring opportunities to innovate and explore ideas
for new sessions, groups or projects, with the aim of building community
BUILDING LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS – Networking and reaching out to other local
charities, faith groups, community groups and statutory services.
CAPACITY BUILDING - working with local people and the local baha’i
community to upskill and capacity build. You will also receive training and
shadowing opportunities for your personal development.
COMMUNITY EVENTS - planning, running and organising community events
PROJECT DELIVERY - As a team, you’ll be responsible for delivering a wide
range of projects and events as they emerge, including administration,
communications, and monitoring.
Experience / Skills
You will need some experience, passions and skills in key areas:
- Passionate about people and community development
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Enjoyment of and interest in innovating / setting up new groups
- / projects / ideas
- Experience working as part of a team with the ability to lead
- other volunteers.
- Experience in networking, building connections and building
- partnerships
Please note - this is an unpaid volunteer position.
Expected hours: 15.0 – 20.0 per week
