Sales Manager - Metals & Industrial Distribution
Location: Basingstoke
Salary: £45,000+ (depending on Experience) + Bonus
Are you looking for your next leadership role or to start your journey into managing?
Do you have 5 years' B2B field or account sales experience, ideally in metals, engineering, industrial stockholding, or a comparable physical product environment (plastics, electrical, builders' merchants, etc.)
Our client is a long-established leader in the UK non-ferrous metals industry, proudly family-owned for over 100 years. With nine sites across the country and a turnover of £75 million, they’re continuing to grow; most recently with the launch of their dedicated Aerospace Division.
As part of this exciting new chapter, they’re hiring Sales Manager to work alongside the Director and help shape the future of this team. Based out of their brand-new, modern offices in Basingstoke, you’ll join a passionate team focused on innovation, growth, and long-term success.
THE OPPORTUNITY
With a strong regional presence and a growing sales team, they're looking for a Sales Manager who's ready to take ownership, drive performance, and build something lasting.
This is a pivotal role: you'll lead a team of sales executives, set the standard for proactive outbound selling, and work closely with senior leadership to hit ambitious growth targets.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Leading and motivating a regional sales team, driving consistent outbound activity and new account development
Monitoring team performance measures including outbound calls, new accounts opened, credit management, and account up/down trader performance
Owning account targets — each account has an annual target broken down bi-monthly, and you'll keep your team tracking against them
Implementing structure and process to ensure the whole team performs, not just top billers
Representing the business professionally with key clients and prospects
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
At least 5 years' B2B field or account sales experience, ideally in metals, engineering, industrial stockholding, or a comparable physical product environment (plastics, electrical, builders' merchants, etc.)
Some team leadership or management experience — we're open to emerging talent who's ready to step up as much as experienced managers
A genuinely proactive approach to sales — you make the phone ring, you don't wait for it
Confident, structured, and able to implement process without losing the team along the way
Strong motivator: you want the whole team to win, not just hit a headline number on the back of one big deal
A quick learner who won't be fazed by the pace and complexity of metals or commodity distribution sales
PACKAGE
Base salary of circa £45,000+ depending on experience. On top of that, a weighted annual profit share scheme directly tied to your leadership and the results you drive; the stronger your team performs, the more it pays. 25 days annual leave. Monday to Friday, standard office hours.
If you've worked in a fast-moving physical product environment where the sale doesn't end at the order; where you've had to follow through to invoice and manage relationships at pace, we'd love to hear from you. Industry can be taught; drive and structure can’t!
