We’re looking for a skilled Maintenance Operative with strong multi-trade experience to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role, covering responsive repairs, general maintenance, and remedial works across a diverse property portfolio.
About the Role
As a Maintenance Operative, you’ll carry out a wide range of repairs and maintenance tasks in both occupied and vacant properties. You’ll ensure all work is completed to a high standard, on time, and in line with health and safety regulations.
This role involves travel across Kent and surrounding areas. A company van and fuel card are provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete high-quality remedial and maintenance works across residential properties.
- Work safely and adhere to all Health & Safety procedures.
- Ensure customer schedules and works are completed to specification and within deadlines.
- Support Schedulers and the Repairs Manager with responsive and planned works.
- Plan and organise workloads effectively to meet customer and company needs.
- Report and escalate any issues, risks, or follow-on works as required.
Requirements
- Ability to work on own initiative and manage workload effectively.
- Must be able to cover areas within a reasonable travelling distance of Bedfordshire.
- Capable of organising materials, tools, and equipment required to complete planned works.
- Report any follow-on or related repair works that cannot be completed during the visit, providing sufficient detail for an accurate further works order.
- Ensure compliance when using devices to take photos and record details of completed works.
- Friendly, flexible, and professional attitude when engaging with customers and colleagues.
About You
- Previous experience as a multi-trade maintenance technician in a customer-facing environment.
- Strong practical skills across various building trades.
- Flexible approach – willing to work occasional overtime, weekends, or emergency callouts if needed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive, organised, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Professional and resilient, maintaining a positive image in all customer interactions.
Core Trade Skills:
- Carpentry & Joinery: Doors, windows, skirting, flooring.
- Plumbing: Sinks, toilets, baths, pipework, drainage.
- Electrical (Basic): Sockets, switches, lighting.
- Plastering: Walls, ceilings, patch repairs.
- Painting & Decorating: Internal and external finishes.
- Bricklaying & Masonry: Walls, pointing, structural repairs.
- Roofing: Tiles, gutters, downpipes.
- Flooring: Vinyl, laminate, carpet fitting.
- Tiling: Wall and floor tiles, grouting, sealing.
- Glazing: Window repairs and DGU replacements.
Other Requirements:
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Good IT skills for logging and reporting work electronically.
