ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Automation Engineer to join a leading UK manufacturing business operating in a highly automated production environment.
This is a good opportunity for an Automation, Controls or PLC Engineer who wants to work on a mix of automation projects, manufacturing improvements, robotics integration and electrical control systems. The role offers days only, Monday to Friday hours, and the chance to work across well-invested manufacturing sites where automation and engineering are central to ongoing development.
You will be involved in both project-based and hands-on engineering work, supporting new production lines, factory upgrades, system improvements and control system reliability across high-volume manufacturing operations.
The Role
As Automation Engineer, you will support the design, development, integration and improvement of automation and electrical control systems across manufacturing sites.
Duties will include:
- Designing, developing and supporting automation and electrical control systems
- Programming, modifying and optimising PLCs, HMIs, drives and industrial networks
- Supporting robotics and cobot integration projects
- Assisting with automation projects from design through to commissioning
- Troubleshooting automation, controls and electrical system issues
- Producing and reviewing electrical drawings and technical documentation
- Supporting new production lines, factory upgrades and process improvements
- Ensuring control systems meet machinery safety and compliance standards
- Working with engineering, production and project teams to improve manufacturing performance
- Supporting continuous improvement activity across manufacturing operations
About You
The role would suit someone with experience as an Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer, PLC Engineer, Electrical Controls Engineer or Manufacturing Automation Engineer.
You will need:
- Experience programming and fault finding on PLCs, HMIs, drives and control systems
- Knowledge of Siemens, Schneider, Allen-Bradley or similar PLC platforms
- Good understanding of automation systems, control architecture and industrial networking
- Experience working on automation, controls or manufacturing engineering projects
- Ability to read, produce or amend electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Understanding of machinery safety standards and safe system design
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- A practical, hands-on approach to engineering and problem solving
Qualifications
- HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or similar preferred
- Relevant hands-on experience in automation, controls or manufacturing engineering will also be considered
